Whitepaper: Der Aufstieg der intelligenten Logistik

Wie intelligente Logistik Häfen und Bahnhöfe in wertschöpfende Datendrehscheiben transformiert.

The globalisation of our economy has led to a dramatic increase in the flow of goods around the globe. Every day, gigantic container ships and hundreds of freight wagons transport goods from one end of the world to the other. More than ever, logisticians are confronted with the problem of preventing time delays caused by supply chain disruptions and managing and optimising the enormous flows of goods from a cost and efficiency perspective. However, digital technologies are now providing logisticians with the tools to master these challenges.

Today, state-of-the-art sensors, cross-border connectivity solutions and intelligent tracking systems not only enable real-time monitoring of the flow of goods, but also of the transport material. Intelligent web-based IoT platforms, in conjunction with artificial intelligence technologies such as machine learning, support logisticians in evaluating the enormous data flows and using the insights gained to optimise transport chains and the throughput of goods, to avoid risks in freight flows, and for preventive maintenance and servicing of the means of transport. By intelligently evaluating the movement data of goods, just-in-time delivery of goods becomes possible, keeping the need for costly stockpiling of goods to an absolute minimum without limiting the effectiveness and efficiency of business productivity. Modern asset tracking systems in combination with IoT platforms and GPS-supported traffic and weather data enable logistics to optimise the interface between the different means of transport and enable smooth interaction of the entire transport chain.

The ever broader and deeper integration of digital technologies in logistics allows for increasingly sophisticated monitoring and control of transport chains and means, which increases the efficiency of goods transport and at the same time, reduces costs in a highly competitive market. This applies to the transport of goods by water as well as by rail or road.
