2G Network Sunset Announcement

The planned 2G network shutdown announced by A1 (in Austria for 31 May 2028) reflects a broader global trend. Mobile operators around the world are increasingly phasing out legacy 2G networks to enable more efficient and future-ready connectivity solutions.

As an IoT connectivity provider, we would like to inform our customers that this change may affect devices and deployments that rely exclusively on 2G connectivity.

We are reaching out to affected customers in phases and providing individual support throughout the transition.

Impact Assessment

Customers are encouraged to review their device fleets and identify any assets that currently depend on 2G technology. Devices that do not support alternative network technologies may experience service disruption once 2G services are retired.

The potential impact will vary depending on the device type, hardware capabilities, SIM type, as well as deployment location. We recommend assessing your current device estate to determine whether any modifications or migration to newer network technologies may be necessary.

A 4G-capable device is not necessarily VoLTE-capable. To continue using voice services after the network transition, both 4G and VoLTE support are required.

Migration Support

To ensure business continuity, we recommend planning a migration to supported network technologies such as LTE, LTE-M, NB-IoT, or 5G, where applicable.
