A total of 1800 handhelds and 150 smartphones (with voice function) were equipped with special M2M SIM cards. The direct communication with the server and the accessibility of the terminals via fixed IP addresses led to a considerable facilitation of the support process, e.g. for firmware updates or troubleshooting.

The Customer:

The history of Gebrüder Weiss goes back nearly 700 years from a messenger service through the Alps to the global transport and logistics company. This makes the company the oldest transport and logistics company in Austria, which is still family-owned.


Foresight, vigilance and the ability to develop with the world have made the company what it is today: an internationally operating company whose experts themselves develop industry- and customer-specific transport and logistics solutions. They enable seamless integration of production, business and transport processes. A decisive competitive advantage.

The Challenge:

One of the company's competitive advantages is the delivery of companies operating in Europe and parts of Asia (e.g. Georgia) use handheld scanners for the digitization of distribution processes. It is crucial that the terminals are reachable and that direct communication with the servers is possible. In the course of converting the devices used, a private access point for logging into the mobile data network (APN for short) and a virtual private network (VPN) should provide more security and protection for devices and IT infrastructure.


The management of connectivity should also be carried out via a central platform, because the national SIM cards should no longer be managed separately in each country and should be combined with a provider in order to save process costs. In a further step, smartphones and other scanners should be integrated into the solution.

The Solution:

The transport and logistics company relied on the M2M know-how of A1 Digital International GmbH from Vienna to meet the connectivity requirements. The managed connectivity platform “Simplify” from A1 Digital was used. The Bulk SIM Management Platform is an integral part of A1 Digital's M2M Management Connectivity offering and now enables a large number of SIM cards to be monitored efficiently and automatically and all mobile order processing communications centrally manage via mobile phone.
